Guardian Types Compendium

Guardian Types

Pre-Rebirth Guardian Types 

There are totally 8 Guardian Types. What type a Guardian is; is completely random in the hunting areas. All Referral reward Guardians are type Cool.

Below is each type’s relationship to Cool lvl60  (100% benchmark):

Obviously Ace is the best type, but they are not that common and very expensive to trade. Depending on the Guardians’ skills, some other types may be very useful, too.

As a general rule, types that enhance a Guardian’s stat strength is better than types that covers a Guardian’s weakness. Also, 50% of DEF or WIS is added to the HP for the tanking ability in the damage equation. Therefore, it’s better to increase HP than to increase DEF. So for tanking Guardians, Chaotic > Brave > Cool/Powerful.


Cool
This is the basic type, having the standard stats for the Guardians. It is a balanced type with no particular pros or cons and hence a decent type for any guardian. It is essentially the “average” type and will be used as a “base reference” for this guide.

Chaotic
Chaotic type Guardians have 10% more HP and 10% less WIS compared to Cool type. From the damage equation, we know that having more HP will make it easier to survive attacks. However, it also reduces WIS, which is important for elemental spell casting as well as elemental defense. Chaotic type is preferred for Physical attackers with high HP and DEF stats for them to be tanks. But Elemental tanks also exist with high HP and WIS. HP is thus the an important stat for all guardians irrespective of their caster builds or skills.

Sexy
Sexy boosts MP by 10% and lowers HP by 10%. This type often requires less stoning to have enough MP to cast attacks more often, and for Guardians with Self Destruct skill, bigger MP store will also give more damage. On the other hand, reduced HP also means that this type may be KO’d by the enemy more easily. For five star guardians with enough MP for casting their best skills more than once, Sexy type is generally seen as a bad type due to this lower HP

Powerful
Powerful type has 10% higher ATK at the expense of 10% less AGI or speed. This may not be a problem for Physical tanks that can take a hit, and may often be preferred if the Guardian has Quick Strike skill, as damage will be based on ATK stat. However, because AGI is lowered, this type often moves later than the enemy and may be killed before it can attack. Powerful type is useful on physical build cards but can be detrimental to elemental casters. The main issue of lowered AGI is the main reason for this type to be less favored compared to other types.

Brave
Brave boosts DEF stats by 10% and lowers MP store by 10%. The lower MP store may worry you if it cannot use attacks as many times as you want it to. However for some elemental casters with bigger stores of MP, this will not be a problem at all (examples include Serenade Banshee, Shiva, Ettin, etc). For some Guardians which have initially low MP stores to start with, Brave type will limit their usefulness. One point to be clear, at the higher levels of coliseum, most guardians will get only once chance to attack, so having a lot of MP would not be crucial. Brave type is thus better than a cool type since it has all the stats of a cool type, plus additional defense at the cost of surplus unused MP. However care should be taken to ensure that the brave type guardian can double cast and utilize its recommended skill set effectively without any compromise

Fast
Fast types have 10% AGI but also 10% less DEF. Fast types often act before the others so it could be a good advantage to have fast type. But for very slow Guardians, the AGI boost will not be enough to make it move fast and the penalty on DEF makes it more vulnerable to attacks. Fast type is great for Guardians that already have high AGI (makes them even faster still), or Guardians that have strong attacks and can kill opponents in one attack. Fast types help boost the ATB bar which is the system in guardian cross used by the AI to determine who gets a turn to attack per round of the battle. Fast types are excellent lead cards. They are however more susceptible to early demise against physical attacks or strong LS attacks.

Intelligent
Guardians of intelligent type have 10% more WIS but 10% less ATK, so it is obviously better for Guardians using elemental attacks. Intelligent is an excellent type for elemental build guardians since it improves their offense. WIS also acts as elemental defense for ALL guardians. Thus even physical build guardians need wisdom for elemental defense. However the loss in ATK is why intelligent is considered a bad type for physical attacking guardians.

Ace Type
Ace Guardians have 10% increase in all stats and no reduced stats, so Aces share all the benefits of the other types. Obviously getting an Ace is not that common and very expensive to trade. Aces are undoubtedly the best type in the game of guardian cross. They have no drawbacks whatsoever and have exceptionally high trading value.




Post-Rebirth Guardian Type 

There are totally 8 Guardian Types after rebirth as well.

Obviously Ace+ is the very best type. But with rebirth the new types get an extra 5% boost in a particular stat as compared to Ace+. Thus, depending on the Guardians’ skills, some other types may be very useful, too.



Bold (Chaotic + Chaotic)
Remember how Chaotic types have 10% more HP than Cool types? Well, Bold types have 15% more HP than a Reborn Cool (Cool+) while the WIS is also reduced by 15%. This is exceptionally good for Physical build cards, since the loss in wisdom is more than compensated by the gain in HP such that, the elemental defence actually becomes better. It isn’t a favored type for elemental build guardians since it lowers their offense and reduces their efficiency.


Erotic (Sexy + Sexy)
Erotic type increases MP a lot while having slightly reduced HP. Erotic types have 15% more MP than a Reborn Cool (Cool+) while the HP is also reduced by 15%. This isn’t a good type for almost any guardian unless they have the special ability “Self Destruct”. Erotic also may be a favorable type for guardians with very low base MP for effective skill set execution.

Berserk (Powerful + Powerful)

Berserk types have 15% more ATK than a Reborn Cool (Cool+) while the AGI is also reduced by 15%. This may not be a problem for Physical tanks that can take a hit, and may often be preferred if the Guardian has Quick Strike skill, as damage will be based on ATK stat. However, because AGI is lowered, this type often moves later than the enemy and may be killed before it can attack. Stalwart (Brave + Brave)

Stalwart types have 15% more DEF than a Reborn Cool (Cool+) while the MP is also reduced by 15%. Stalwart cards may not have enough MP for dual casting of 4+ skills in certain cases. However if the existing brave type had sufficient MP and the new rebirth skill doesn’t require a lot of MP, then it is a good type to have due to the improved physical defense. Stalwart type is thus better than a Cool+ type since it has all the stats of a cool type, plus additional defense at the cost of surplus unused MP. However care should be taken to ensure that the Stalwart type guardian can double cast and utilize its recommended skill set effectively without any compromise



Sonic (Fast + Fast)

Sonic types have 15% more AGI than a Reborn Cool (Cool+) while the DEF is also reduced by 15%. Higher chances of hitting twice or more against slow enemies. Sonic types have the advantage of being faster than Ace+ types and thus most often attack before the others so it could be a good advantage to have Sonic type. But for very slow Guardians, the AGI boost will not be enough to make it move fast and the penalty on DEF makes it more vulnerable to physical attacks. Sonic type is great for Guardians that already have high AGI (makes them extremely fast), or Guardians that have strong attacks and can kill opponents in one attack. Sonic types help boost the ATB bar by a large amount which allows the sonic cards to double shot more often. Sonic types are excellent lead cards. They are however more susceptible to early demise against physical attacks or strong LS attacks.



Wise (Intelligent + Intelligent)
Wise types have 15% more WIS than a Reborn Cool (Cool+) while the ATK is also reduced by 15%.Even more WIS boost but less ATK, and generally better for elemental casters. Wise is the best type for elemental build guardians since it massively improves their offense. WIS also acts as elemental defense for ALL guardians. Thus even physical build guardians need wisdom for elemental defense. However the loss in ATK is why Wise is considered one of the worst types for physical attacking guardians.

Cool+ (Cool + Any)
Reborn cools have no stats reduction, but due to increased level cap, stats for Cool+ type are comparable to normal Aces (non-reborn). Cool+ are the most economical rebirth types since they can be reborn with any other type. They also have similar stats to un-reborn aces and thus can be useful and easier to obtain.

Ace+ (Ace + Any)
Reborn aces maintain 10% increase over Cool+ type stats, and generally still the best reborn type available. But with rebirth the new types get an extra 5% boost in a particular stat as compared to Ace+. So Reborn Aces are no longer the strongest, fastest, etc... But Ace+ types are still preferred as it has increased stats and no reductions. Ace+ is the best type for any and all guardians in the game of guardian cross.

Rebirth with any type to have reborn cool type. Thus stats at Lv 1 remain the same.
Thanks to extra leveling up, reborn cool type is comparable to a non-reborn Ace type.

Rebirth with another chaotic to have reborn bold type. Note that the HP is increased 15% while WIS will have 15% reduction compared to cool type.
Due to the extra levelling up after rebirth, the increase in HP becomes more noticeable, while reduction in WIS is not as bad as before rebirth.
